OVC Parent/Guardian Empowerment

Provide non-formal training, counseling and tools to the parents or guardians of enrolled OVCs

Goals:

  1. Provide non-formal training, counseling and tools to the parents or guardians of enrolled OVCs that will enhance their spiritual, psycho-social, economic, physical, and parenting formation and also equip them to respond transformatively to the critical OVC realities.
  2. To provide a forum for the formation of support groups for the OVC parents/guardians that will be a resource for a transformational response to the difficult realities of vulnerability.
  3. Stimulate self-sustenance and the pride and honor that result from owning an animal, a micro business or having a kitchen garden that besides providing for self, one is able to give back to the community through the First Harvest Multiplication program and also can generate some income from this.
  4. Provide training on basic family health, nutrition, first aid, family planning and realties on sex education.

Model:

  • Quarterly meeting with Parents/Guardians.
  • Plenary ‘the program seeks to work alongside these families in establishing income generating activities.



Activities under this service include:

1. Training on theology of work.
2. Income generation activities:
3. Training on Employment creation initiatives.
4. Training on Micro-Business Formation and Growth.
5. Training on Parenting Counseling
6. Training on Contraceptive Counseling.
Income generating activities include :
  • Kitchen gardens
  • Goat keeping
  • Chicken keeping

Benefits of Goat Keeping:
  • Goat milk for home consumption or sale
  • Manure for home garden use or sale
  • Post-Harvest kid sale (of the male kid, excess female kid or mother.
  • Personal significance in First Harvest Multiplication.
  • First Harvest Multiplication
  • First female kid returned for redistribution in the project (Giving family involved).
Benefits of Chicken Keeping:
  • Eggs and meat for home consumption or sale
  • Manure for home garden use or sale
  • Post-First Harvest Chicken sale (of excess male and female chicks or mother).
  • First Harvest Multiplication:
  • First 4 female chicks and 1 male chick returned for redistribution in the project (Giving family involved).
